The iPod Wedding DJ

Published by The Budget-Minded Bride Blog at 1:22 AM

If you are a bride on a really tight budget and you cannot afford a wedding DJ, then I would absolutely use an iPod for the wedding reception. Now, there is some information on what you need to have for your wedding reception when using the iPod, so let’s go over what a bride needs to make a successful event.

In the reception location, the amplification needs to be one of the important things to make a difference and have the wedding reception be successful. The music needs to be loud and heard throughout the reception area. Using your iPod purchase this Sony S-AIRPLAY AIR-SA20PK Wireless iPod Dock, which costs around $180.00 or use your laptop to hook up a great surround sound system that will make your wedding reception a smash!

Once you have your amplication in place, the next step is to set up an iTunes play list on your iPod. When creating the play list keep in mind what songs you want in what part of the reception, such as the Announcement, First Dance Music, Mother Son Dance Music, Father Daughter Dance Music, Anniversary Dance Music, Cake Cutting Dance Songs, and the Last Dance Music. Be sure that the selected songs are not super long introductions or endings and play music that is familiar to all. Not everyone has the same taste, but variety is good. A good idea to implement on your RSVP cards is to have a place for song requests and guests love that because they can participate in the wedding day. Whatever you do try to implement the songs during the reception, whether it is the dancing music or during the reception dining.

With all the fill music being played in between, make sure if the dance floor isn’t filled up with your wedding guests, then be sure select other music to ensure your guest get out on the floor and have a good time. When building your playlist make sure you have more than enough songs, but also make sure the selection has build up and easing it down music transitions. When things are winding down for the evening build up the music because the event is supposed to be the light, yet fun and memorable song for the wedding event for guest dismissal.

After the playlist is created, now it is time to scout out a reliable friend or relative be the iPod DJ, a friend that is somewhat computer savvy to run the playlist can also be the emcee for the evening. Make sure you review the playlist and discuss music selection with this person. By using a reliable friend or relative is a great way to incorporate guest participation at the wedding!

The last but not least is to print out your playlist. After the wedding rehearsal dinner, take a few minutes to set up shop at the reception and rehearse by playing a few songs on the playlist. It is better to work through all the kinks before the wedding reception, so the event runs perfectly.

We wish the bride and groom good luck with the iPod Wedding DJ idea and we hope the wedding and reception will be a successful event.

Kissing Bells

Published by The Budget-Minded Bride Blog at 4:52 PM

Most wedding traditions include the tapping of the wine glasses to have the bride and groom kiss at there wedding, but an idea that was incorporated at a recent friends wedding reception was wedding bells. Wedding bells are symbolic of wedding ceremonies that celebrate the announcement and uniting of the couple.

This particular bride used silver bells with beautiful white wedding ribbon and small card with their picture attached to the bell to match the theme of the wedding and were placed in an elegant crystal bowl with a note card by the bowl. The card read, “Today, as we gather together wish us a love to last forever. If you would like us to share a wedded kiss, ring the bell for lifelong bliss.”

Remember, by having the guests ring the bells, they are celebrating and participating in the wedding with you and it is a great keepsake wedding favor because guests will remember what a wonderful wedding that was celebrated by using kissing bells as a symbolic part of the reception.

Note: If you are a do it your self bride, here are instructions on how to create your own kissing bells at Project Wedding DIY Wedding Bells Instructions-Click Here

Choose the Perfect Wedding Dress for Your Body Type

Published by The Budget-Minded Bride Blog at 6:12 PM

We believe it is so important for a bride to find out what fits her body type and found this extremely helpful guide for brides, which will help determine what gown will fit and flatter your body the best (Real Simple, 2009).

If You're Pear-Shaped
Look for: A skirt that gradually flares out in an A formation from the natural waist to the floor, highlighting the narrowness of the midsection and floating away from the hips and thighs. (Sturdier fabrics, such as duchesse satin and taffeta, are especially effective, since they won't cling.) A spaghetti-strap bodice or a V neckline will also showcase a more slender upper body.

Keep in mind: A classic A-line silhouette lends itself to formal weddings, but it can also be dressed down when made from a more casual fabric, like eyelet lace or raw-silk shantung.

If You're Busty
Look for: A dress with a scooped neckline. It will open up your face and display your décolletage without showing too much cleavage. If you love the look of strapless gowns, choose one that has a slight dip along the neckline, like a sweetheart, rather than a style that goes straight across (which will make your bust appear even larger and more shelflike).

Keep in mind: Fabric on the bodice that has a sheen to it (such as organza, satin, or silk) will add volume and call attention to your chest. Material that is ruched will have the same effect.

If You’re Plus-Sized
Look for: An Empire dress with a skirt that begins just under the bust and flows into a gradual floor-length A-line. Make sure the Empire seam does not start on the chest and that there is no pleating of the fabric, which is reminiscent of maternity wear. The dress should play up your shape; if it’s too loose, it will add pounds.

Keep in mind: Find fabrics like satin that provide structure, rather than anything too flowy. If you love the romantic look of airier fabrics, choose a gown with a stiffer base, then add an embroidered tulle overlay.

If You’re Apple-Shaped
Look for: A dress that cinches in at the smallest point on the waistline, then flares out into a gradual A shape. Opt for a bodice with a lot of texture to it―think ruche or lace detailing―that will camouflage and fit snugly, creating a corsetlike effect. The most slenderizing neckline for you is one with a deep V, which will draw eyes toward the vertical, not the horizontal.

Keep in mind: Avoid trumpet dress styles, which emphasize the area where your body is widest and flare out at the legs and the knees, where you are most slender.

If You're Tall
Look for: A simple silhouette. The strategy is to emphasize your natural shape, so every aspect of the dress―the lower waistline, a floor-sweeping hem―needs to reflect your longer proportions. If you're wearing long sleeves, they should go past the wrist. You don't want to look as if you've borrowed a gown from someone shorter than you.

Keep in mind: Because you are statuesque, you'll want to err on the side of simplicity when it comes to embellishments. Too many bells and whistles, like ruffles and rosettes, can come off as cutesy, particularly on a tall person.

If You’re Straight-Lined
Look for: A dress that will create curves where you don’t have them. Try a sheath dress in a wispy charmeuse that’s cut on the bias; the curving side seam will give you a va-va-va-voom silhouette. Or look for a ball gown that cinches in at your natural waist and descends into a full, flowing floor-length skirt: It will capitalize on your slenderness and camouflage a lack of hips.

Keep in mind: If you have a small bust, look for a bodice with some ruching to create volume.

If You're Petite
Look for: Trumpet, sheath, and modified A-line gowns. Find a style with a waistline above your natural waist, to make the lower half of the dress (and therefore you) appear longer. The fabric is up to you―you can pull off a high sheen. But the detailing should be small (no huge bows) and limited to the bodice, to draw the eye upward.

Keep in mind: Be wary of dresses with a dropped waist, which will make your legs seem nonexistent, and ball gowns―it's easy to get lost in that voluminous skirt. Also, avoid anything calf-length, which will make your legs look short.

If You're Small-Chested
Look for: A ruched bodice. Extra fabric up top will help fill out your upper body and create the illusion of curves. Lightly padded halter styles will also do the trick.

Keep in mind: The right bra will always provide a nice boost, but as many wedding dresses are strapless or backless, your undergarment options may be fairly limited. Instead, try self-adhesive silicone bra cups by NuBra (available at nubra.com).

Wedding Confetti

Published by The Budget-Minded Bride Blog at 2:58 PM

So you want something unique as wedding confetti and you're not sure what to use. With so many choices, it can be hard for a couple to decide. Here are a few ideas, tips and uses for your special day.

Beach theme? Why not use shredded coconut! It's inexpensive, won't stain clothes and is completely safe for birds and animals. What better way to have a tropical send off?

Lavender buds make for beautiful send off. Fill flower girl baskets with lavender (even use the baskets as part of centerpieces) pass them around to the guest, have them each grab a handful to toss a the newly married couple.

A variation for this idea is to pass out organza bags filled with lavender buds to toss at the couple and whatever is left, send home with the guests. Lavender makes a wonderful drawer sachets or dryer sachets.

Fill buckets with freeze dried roses or a mixture of a different freeze dried roses/ flowers. They make for a elegant toss, stay beautiful and will not stain clothing.

These petals are colorfast and available in range of beautiful colors and are suitable for a wide range of uses including throwing, scattering or adding to ice sculptures or flower arrangements.

Real petals, which have been freeze dried to remove their moisture, whilst retaining the size, subtle shading and color of the fresh petal

If you want a petal that retains the subtlety of shading and natural look of a fresh rose petal, then freeze dried ones are for you.

Other methods such as air-drying can result in a rather shriveled petal, glycerin 'preserved' petals have a rather unnatural look and feel.

As a process, freeze-drying removes most of the moisture from the petals, but the size of the petal is maintained. The feel of the petal is slightly dry but still soft and delicate

A great advantage of being able to use freeze-dried petals of certain flower varieties is that it extends their season.

Particularly good with peonies and some types of Old English garden rose. It means that we can still use preserved petals and also whole flower heads when the growing season is over. (Whole heads make great decorations for cakes, on top or between the layers).

Freeze dried rose petals are perfect for scattering on tables or used to line pathways or aisles.

They are also perfect when used to throw as confetti.

Unlike fresh rose petals these petals won’t wilt or die, and they are available in a wide range of colors.

The rose petals come in a variety of single colors and specialty color blends.

Please note that since this is a natural product, colors may vary slightly. Unlike fresh petals, freeze-dried petals will not wilt or stain clothing. Perfect for decorating a wedding aisle or tossing after the ceremony—indoors or out.

Try these other flowers too!

Selecting a beautiful gift for your Bridesmaids

Published by The Budget-Minded Bride Blog at 11:46 PM

Having a bridesmaid participate in your wedding day is very important and brides need to recognize their important position in the wedding. Remember, the bride has selected the bridesmaid because the bridesmaid is a close friend, cousin, or sister.

A bridesmaid takes on similar tasks like the matron of honor, but fewer planning responsibilities such as, attend dress fittings, assist with wedding shower, addressing wedding invitations, bridal errands, or assists the bride in anyway on the wedding day.

Keep in mind you are selecting a memorable gift that can be either used as a keepsake or something unique that the bridesmaid will cherish, but make sure it is a universal gift that is suitable for all bridesmaids. The gift can be traditional, classical, or informal gift, but the selection is up to the bride. Just remember to keep gifts with in your allotted wedding budget.

We have assembled many Brides Gift Ideas for you to choose from:
Wedding Day Jewelry
Candle Gift Baskets
Personalized Stationery
Mini Jewelry Box
Monogrammed Tote Bags filled with several small gifts
Makeup Bag, Purse or Wristlet

• Spa Day
• Gift Certificates

Additional ideas would include matching the bridesmaids gifts to your wedding theme, wedding colors, or personalizing the gift. Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue Tradition

Published by The Budget-Minded Bride Blog at 11:56 PM

Have you heard of the saying Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue and a Sixpence in her shoe? This common phrase that is heard all around the world and when each action that is performed, it is to give the bride and groom good luck and happiness for their wedding day. It is one of my all time favorite wedding traditions!

Something old is to represent the brides family of the past and some say it is a connection between the couple and the family after establishing a family of their own. Other historical documentation states something old is leaving your past behind to start a new beginning. Basically, I believe it is whatever the bride feels this represents to her, whether it is jewelry, handkerchief, or a family photo.

Something New means optimism and hope for the bride’s future. This bond between you and your husband will be a long lasting commitment to one another for years to come. This symbolization could be in the form of rings, keys to your new home, wedding gown, or any type of bridal accessory.

Something Borrow is an item that is passed down from a family member or friend, which is given to the bride. The borrowed item given to the bride by family and friends she can always count on for loving support throughout the couples marriage. Something borrowed could be handed down in the form of family jewelry, cake cutting set, monogrammed handkerchief, or it could even be your wedding dress.

Something Blue symbolizes an item that is blue such as a wedding garter, blue tattoo, blue shoes, or something with blue meaning to the bride such as a wedding garter, blue earrings, or to tie a blue ribbon on the bridal wedding bouquet. The color blue is a traditional wedding color, which symbolizes luck, purity, loyalty.

A Sixpence is inserted in the brides left shoe and represents wealth, security, and good luck.

This Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue tradition has been around for many years and represents special meanings for all brides all around the world. It is a beautiful tradition that should always be included with family and friends and never be forgotten.

Personalize Your Own Guestbook

Published by The Budget-Minded Bride Blog at 11:23 AM

I found this cute idea for a wedding shower and I thought I would share it with everyone. I have been to many bridal showers and bridal gift lists were kept, but not a bridal shower guest book. I think this is a wonderful idea to incorporate fun into your bridal shower and have your guests feel included on your special day.
On the pages, guest can write information on advice for the bride or groom, words of wisdom, or great qualities in a soon to be bride. There is plenty of room in this guestbook to share your thoughts or advice with the couple.
The guestbooks are not just created for weddings. There are other occasions you can design a guestbook for, such as anniversary, baby shower, birthday, graduation, retirement and much more!

The Guestbook Store website is very user friendly and walks you through the design selection process by:
•Selecting Your Cover (Choose from a variety of beautifully themed covers)
•Personalize Your Name
•Select Pages
•Add Additional Pages to Personalize Your Guestbook(Invitations Pages, Gift Receipts, Create Your Own Page, Line Guest Pages, or Journaling Pages).

When people are done writing their personal thoughts in the guestbook, you can always share it with a guests at the shower or you could even video tape it and include it as a part of your Wedding CD/DVD Wedding Favors.

It is a great way to personalize your event and also makes a wonderful keepsake for a lifetime of cherished memories!

The Perfect Wedding Palette: The Meaning Behind Wedding Colors

Published by The Budget-Minded Bride Blog at 12:43 AM

There is no question: choosing wedding colors can be one of the trickiest tasks a bride has to cross off the list early on in the planning. Or if you let it, it can be one of the easiest decisions you make.

I always tell the brides who write to me to simply go with colors you love. Because the truth is- you can make virtually any color palette look great, its just a matter of determining what feeling you are going for.

When trying to determine the perfect color palette for your wedding day, have you ever wondered what the colors you've chosen mean? What energy do they give off? What themes do your colors work best with? What about the season?

I'm going to try to answer that. You see, the meaning behind wedding colors really lies within the energy that certain colors give off. Some colors are bold and intense which make them better suited for elegant atmospheres whereas other colors are bright and cheery and more often than not make them better suited for creating a casual, fun-loving and happy atmosphere.

GOLD
{Gold Palettes}: Gold evokes elegance, luxury, warmth, & tradition. Gold is a color that is primarily used in weddings where the couple is trying to create an upscale atmosphere. Gold is rich, it's intense and it definitley gives off that old world kind of vibe. Gold works fabulously in Winter & Fall weddings as a compliment to a richer hue.

RED
{Red Palettes}: Passionate, dramatic, and packed with personality, this romantic hue can really be used in different ways to create entirely different looks. Depending on how you pair it! Red looks gorgeous with aquas, grays or even greens. The perfect color for Summer and Winter weddings.

WHITE
{White Palettes}:
When brides around the world think about having a classic wedding they picture this color. White is associated with purity, simplicity & modernity. Its clean, and it's minimalistic. In some contexts, white can be considered traditional. However, surprisingly white can also be considered very modern if you use large amounts of it by itself.

PEACH
{Peach Palettes}: This soft and feminine hue is nothing but dreamy. Perfect for a bride who wants to create an atmosphere that is charming & pretty. Lovely with colors like navy blue, crisp white, or even celery- peach really is a beautiful hue. Works lovely in Summer or Spring weddings.

NAVY BLUE
{Navy Blue Palettes}: This ultra-preppy color makes for one fabulous wedding color. Often paired with chartreuse or classic white this color puts tradition first, and adds a certain masculinity to the palette. Navy is the perfect color to incorporate into a nautical theme and is great for yacht club settings, or beach weddings. Navy is a great alternative to black.

GRAY
{Gray Palettes}: Modern, understated, retro and sleek, Gray is a color that is popping up everywhere in the world of weddings. And here lately, gray has become the hottest neutral there is. Pair it with colors like yellow, red or plum for the ultimate perfect palette. Gray is the new black.

ORANGE
{Orange Palettes}: Orange is the perfect color for Fall weddings. Not to say that it can't be used for other seasons. However, more often than not Orange is associated with the harvest and with all things Fall. For Fall weddings- orange looks incredible with brown and copper. If you want to use it in a Spring or Summer wedding- simply pair it with a bright and cheery color like yellow or aqua.

GREEN
{Green Palettes}: In weddings, green is like a breath of fresh air. Thanks to the increasing volume of eco-talk, green's also a prominent hue at environmentally-conscious weddings. Green means growth, new life, and positive energy. There are so many ways to use green in your wedding. When paired with a bright color like pink - it can be the perfect palette for Summer or Spring. Or pair it with a more subdued/rustic hue to create a look perfect for Fall or Winter.

AQUA
Aqua Palettes}: Fun-loving, fresh and vibrant. A favorite of beach brides, especially tropical ones. But aqua shows up in plenty of other places, too. It's a favorite paired with chocolate brown for brides who want a fun and modern palette, and aqua and hot pink are also make a pretty palette. Here lately we're even seeing aqua paired with red which makes for a lovely duo.

YELLOW
{Yellow Palettes}: Optimistic, cheery, and packed full of happy thoughts... Yellow is the kick your shoes off and dance kind of color. Lovely with colors like navy, latte, red, or even orange- Yellow has endless possibilities. But one thing is for sure- Yellow is 100 % fun! Perfect for Spring or Summer weddings. We're seeing this color pop up quite often here lately because of the fun factor it brings with it.

IVORY
{Ivory Palettes:} Ivory is elegant, old-world and soft-spoken. Ivory speaks of hand-polished silver and ironed linen. There is something very charming & calming about Ivory. It's less harsh than white and can really evoke a certain old timey feel. A great alternative to white, ivory can work with almost any color.

CHAMPAGNE
{Champagne Palettes}: Refined and elegant, rich and conservative, champagne is a sophisticated color that has a slightly vintage feel. Sometimes with champagne, you will find a slight shimmer which evokes a certain elegance that is unmatched. The perfect compliment to more intense hues like red, and plum or even gold.

LAVENDER
{Lavender Palettes}: Soft, dainty and ladylike, this color often appears in Summer and Spring weddings. It's the perfect color to include in a garden setting. It's nice with colors like chartreuse, classic black or even crisp white. This color looks great in patterns like paisley and gingham.

PALE PINK
{Pale Pink Palettes}: The lighter shades of pink speak to romance, playfulness, and a sense of sweetness. Not to mention it's association with new love and all things pretty. Pale pink works beautifully in Spring or Summer weddings & looks gorgeous is garden & chapel weddings. Pale pink goes beautifully with champagne, light greens & grays. Pink is delicate, soft & beyond charming.
CORAL
{Coral Palettes}: In weddings, this color really is unique. Sometimes taking on a Caribbean feel. Beautiful pairings like coral and copper or coral and blue are nice. Coral is vibrant and punchy & really works nicely in modern weddings. Coral palettes are beautiful in beach settings and any wedding by a body of water for that matter.

HOT PINK
{Hot Pink Palettes}: Hot pink is bursting with energy. The perfect hue to incorporate into almost any season- Hot pink is a great color for beach weddings. Contemporary, fun & definitely modern, hot pink looks incredible with black, chocolate brown or slate gray. Pink is a fun loving color that also can be very romantic.

PLUM
{Plum Palettes}: Purple has strong, historical associations with royalty, especially in sacred contexts. But thanks to the fashion world, purple's taken on a whole new life, and becomes challenging and mysterious, glamorous, and ever-so-slightly chic. Especially when paired with other complex hues like charcoal or even gray. Perfect for Winter & Fall weddings.

SILVER
{Silver Palettes}: Silver is upscale and elegant - its a color that speaks to all things antique. It makes a beautiful compliment to Winter weddings & it's metallic quality really makes it special.

CHOCOLATE BROWN
{Chocolate Brown Palettes}: Chocolate brown is rich and rustic. The perfect alternative to black when it comes to rustic settings like farm weddings, or vineyard weddings. Brown paired with burnt orange, copper or even colors like pink or red really do create unique and beautiful palettes.

BLACK
{Black Palettes}: Sophisticated, intense, & mysterious, black shows up when couples have strong opinions about design. Black can lend a clean, graphic look to the wedding, or can sometimes be a nice accent color. A good neutral for any wedding.

A Recipe for a Happy Marriage tips from a Wedding Expert

Published by The Budget-Minded Bride Blog at 1:26 PM

I was asked this week by a client, “What is the secret that has made your marriage last forever?” As I thought about the question, I pulled out my wedding scrapbook, and showed my client this recipe card and stated this is what truly has made my marriage a success. I had provided a photocopy of the recipe card to this bride and I thought I would share this recipe on my blog of what has made my marriage a success over the years. I believe many people have read this "A Recipe for a Happy Marriage" before, but I thought it is a good secret that is worth sharing again for newly married couples.

A Recipe for a Happy Marriage

•1 cup consideration

•1 cup courtesy

•2 cupfuls flattery carefully concealed

•1 gallon faith and trust in each other

•2 cupfuls praise

•1 small pinch of in-laws

•1 reasonable budget, a generous dash of cooperation

•3 teaspoon pure extract of "I'm sorry"

•1 cup contentment

•1 cup each confidence and encouragement

•1 large or several small hobbies

•1 cup blindness to the others faults

Flavor with frequent portions of recreation and a dash of happy memories. Stir well and remove any specks of jealousy, temper or criticism. Sweeten well with generous portions of love and keep warm with a steady flame of devotion. Never serve with cold shoulder.
