9 Types of Necklines for Wedding Dresses

In this series, I will be outlining nine important wedding dress features, which will be the strapless, sweetheart, halter, v-neck, square, high collar, bateau, scoop, and off the shoulder. I have previously written about choosing the perfect wedding dress for your body type and this falls into the same category. When selecting your wedding dress, the features of the neckline will be as important because after all you want to compliment your body type. With that being said, here are the types for wedding dress necklines:



The Strapless:
The strapless neckline gown is considered a classic wedding look and extends the width from each underarm. This is considered a dress that compliments upper body types that are fit and tone (Photo: David’s Bridal, 2011)!







The Sweetheart:
The sweetheart neckline is a heart shape style that accentuates the bust line. This shape is considered a must for large bust shapes and also provide comfort and support for the girls (Photo: David’s Bridal, 2011).








The Halter:
The halter neckline is a dress that features two straps that connect behind the neck. This is considered another dress that compliments upper body types that are fit and tone (Photo: David’s Bridal, 2011).








The V-Neck:
The v-neckline is a dress that a drop down or plunge type of neckline. The dress features two straps that are between each should and it produces the v-neckline. This is considered a wonderful neckline used for multiple purposes to conceal larger busts or smaller busts can wear the plunge to create the image of a fuller bust size (David’s Bridal, 2011).






The Square:
The square neckline is a straight horizontal bustline with straps located on each shoulder. This dress compliments many body types (David’s Bridal, 2011).









The High Collar:
The high collar neckline is a dress that covers the chest to the extended neck. There are many types of high collar dresses such as keyholes or cut outs and opting to decorate with lace (eCrate, 2011).









The Bateau
The bateau neckline is a boat neck that connects on the edge of each shoulder. This dress compliments the fuller bustline bride (Kleinfields, 2011).









The Scoop
The scoop neckline scoops down from one shoulder to another forming a u shape. This dress compliments many body types (Kleinfields, 2011).










Off The Shoulder
The off the shoulder neckline completely hangs off the shoulder. This dress offers support for the bodice and compliments many body types (Kleinfields, 2011).
